Friday is the day the Lakers create more history.
I would like to take this opportunity to let you all know that this Friday (10th November 2023) we see the Yarrawonga Mulwala Cricket Club field their first female team in the inaugural W&DCA U13s All Girls Cricket League. This is a significant day for female cricket in North East Country Region 6 and a historic day for the Lakers.
At some point, you have all been involved in local junior cricket, encouraging the girls and adding to their enjoyment of cricket. We now are about to see our first ever female team take to the park. On behalf of the club, we wish to thank you for your contribution that has enabled this day to occur.
As parents, you have supported your daughters and encouraged them to play cricket. As volunteers, you have run sessions and provided your experience to give every girl the opportunity to play Australia’s favourite game.
On Friday, our club becomes a complete cricket club. We have lobbied long to have a pathway for our girls to continue their cricket after Woolworths Cricket Blast. We succeeded in leading the way to have the local association form the new All Girls Cricket League. It is a proud moment for all who have played a part.
While we have a talented and enthusiastic group of about 16 girls attending regular training, we believe that there is enough interest to enable the club to field a second team, such is the popularity of cricket with the girls. We have conducted after school programs and clinics at the local three primary schools and have been successful in getting girls to give cricket a go. If your daughter has shown an interest, it is not too late to join in the fun. We are looking for girls aged 10yo-14yo, particularly if in Year 7, to come to training and learn to play cricket. More games are to be scheduled in the New Year. If your daughter and her friends want to join in, simply reply to this email and I can supply the details and invite you to our training program.
For the girls who have been regularly involved, our first game is only days away. We will have a training session on Wednesday (8th November) at Victoria Park from 5pm-6pm, so we can prepare, check availability and name our first team. We look forward to travelling to Wangaratta and taking on Rovers United Bruck Cricket Club (RUBCC) at Wareena Park (Swan Street, Wangaratta) in our club’s historic first female cricket match.
Again, we thank everyone involved for getting us to this point. We look forward to the girls developing their cricket and learning to play in the spirit of the game. It is an exciting time for all.

Friday, 10th November, 2023 – Meet and then leave Victoria Park (4:05pm), travel to Wareena Park, Wangaratta, Game Time 5:15pm Vs RUBCC.

Turn Up, Ready To Play/Train. Cricket is always on until you are told it is off.
